"Mookti" comes from the Sanskrit word मुक्ति (mukti), meaning liberation or freedom. We think it fits our mission of unleashing your full potential and using new digital technologies to move higher education beyond old ways of thinking.

A beta is an early version of a platform or application that's fully functional but still being refined based on user feedback. As a beta user, you'll get early access to Mookti at a discounted rate, and your feedback will directly shape the final product. Think of it as being a co-creator of the future of learning. And while we're fully functional now, we'll be adding new features all the time.

LLMs like ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and Grok are great! In fact, we connect to several of those services behind the scenes to personalize your learning experience. What really sets Mookti apart, though, is that our learning pathways are designed and authored by experts. That goes for all our learning content AND the integrated planning and coaching features we've designed to amplify your potential. It's something we're quite proud of, and it's something no other AI tool offers.

We wish they could be! But at this early point in our journey, we don't have any outside funding, just the revenue we generate from your subscriptions. So our trial periods are calibrated to both give you a chance to fall in love with our platform while also ensuring we have enough cash coming in to pay our bills.

Yes, you can change your plan at any time. If you upgrade, you'll be credited for any unused time on your current plan. If you downgrade, the change takes effect at your next billing cycle.

When you cancel your subscription, your account and all your data remain intact—we preserve your learning progress so you can pick up where you left off if you decide to return. If you want to permanently delete your account and all data, you can do so at any time from your account settings. We'll never sell or share your data with third parties. Period.

We don't think so! Mookti is designed to build your understanding, not provide answers you can copy. Our goal is to help you learn the material deeply so you can excel on your own. Think of us as a study partner who helps you understand concepts, not someone who does your homework for you. With that said, every honor code is different. So even though we've designed our system to pass widely accepted conventions around academic integrity, you may wish to check with your school or professor to ensure consulting a resource like Mookti is allowed for any project or course you might be working on.

Everything! From introductory courses to graduate-level specialization, we cover all academic subjects. Our expert-verified content spans fields in STEM, the humanities, social sciences, business, and more. And as you help us grow through our beta phase, we'll be adding more and more. If it's taught in college, we'll help you master it.

Great question! Peer review is the standard process through which scholarly and other educational materials are reviewed by experts to ensure quality for publication. Think of it as a guarantee of excellence. As of our beta launch, we're working hard to establish the peer review process for all our learning content. You can expect updates from us soon as peer review of our launch content begins, and again when that process is complete. At that point, we plan on being ready to transition out of our beta phase—with a whole bunch of other cool features in place we aren't quite ready to talk about yet. 😉

We think so! We designed our platform to help you ethically understand research methods, organize your thoughts, find credible sources, and improve your writing. We don't write papers for you—we teach you how to write better papers yourself. Ultimately, however, the decision about what tools are and aren't acceptable on a given assignment is up to your school and professors. Be sure to consult with course or campus resources to ensure you're complying with assignment parameters.

Ellen is your AI learning companion, named after "elenchus"—the Socratic method of learning through dialogue. She adapts to your learning style, tracks your progress, and provides personalized guidance across all three modes. Think of her as a tutor, planner, and coach rolled into one.

Not yet, but it's coming soon! For now, Mookti works great in your mobile browser. Our mobile-first design ensures a smooth experience on any device. Native iOS and Android apps are in development, will launch soon, and will be free for all subscribers.

Currently, Mookti requires an internet connection. We're working on offline capabilities for core features, which will be available in a future update.

A public benefit corporation (PBC) is a legal structure that requires companies to balance profit with purpose. So because we're a PBC, we're legally obligated to prioritize your educational success, not just shareholder returns. That means we make decisions based on what's best for learners, not what's most profitable.

We officially became a public benefit corporation in October 2025, making our commitment to democratizing higher education legally binding. (It's not like we were some soul-sucking monsters before that though, just a baby corporation started from scratch in 2024 without all the paperwork filed to fulfill our student-first mission.) If you're a stickler for details (like we are!), our specific public benefit purpose is: "The specific public benefit purpose of the Corporation is to democratize access to world-class higher education by (i) reducing financial and geographic barriers to access and (ii) advancing new models of postsecondary education to better serve learner needs in the 21st century and beyond."

As of our beta launch, we're bootstrapped—meaning we rely entirely on what our founders can contribute and what we earn through your subscriptions. So given what professors' salaries look like these days, that basically means we rely entirely on your support.

Mookti was founded by a professor with a Princeton Ph.D. who was fed up with not being able to provide all his students with the one thing he knew they needed to succeed: personalized attention. That's why he built Mookti to take advantage of state of the art AI technology to deliver the planning, instruction, and coaching support he knows works, but which it's never before been possible to provide to many students at the same time. He can't be everywhere in the classroom at once, but Mookti can be available to thousands and thousands of students everywhere whenever they need it.

Never. Your data is used only to improve your learning experience. We don't sell it or share it with advertisers. Your privacy is fundamental to our mission.

It's our way of thanking early supporters. For the first 1,000 subscribers, you get 50% off our regular annual price ($120 instead of $240) and we lock in that rate for two full years. You also get early access to new features and direct input into our development roadmap.

Our pricing is already designed to be student-friendly. We figure most of our users are students eligible for academic discounts anyway, so we built our price plan assuming everyone gets the education discount price. It helps us make things easier and more affordable for you, while saving us the cost of paying a third-party service to verify student status. For now, the Founder's Annual plan is our best deal at just $10/month. In the future, we hope to introduce additional discounts for students with demonstrated financial need.

Yes. We use bank-level encryption (256-bit SSL) for all data transmission and storage. Our servers are hosted in secure, SOC 2 compliant data centers. We conduct regular security audits and never store payment information directly—that's handled by Stripe, a PCI-compliant payment processor.

If you're over 18, no. Your account is private to you. We don't share your activity, progress, or any other information with schools, parents, or anyone else unless legally required to do so. Your learning journey is yours alone. If you're under 18 though, your parents or legal guardians have the right to access information about your account activity. Under U.S. law (including COPPA and state privacy laws), we're legally obligated to provide parents with access to their minor child's personal information upon verified request. Parents can contact us at privacy@mookti.ai to request access to their child's account information.

This is why peer review matters, and why we're committed to bringing peer review processes to our platform. At launch, you can be sure that all our content databases are verified by human experts—unlike generic AI chatbots—which has been shown to dramatically reduce errors compared to raw AI output.
